MUSIC // RESPONSE

The Safe in Sound (SIS) app is built with a simple but vital goal: to use the universal language of music to bridge the gap for men who are struggling with their mental health but find it too daunting to speak up face-to-face. By focusing on music, we can break down the barriers of stigma and let a person’s taste in tunes explain how they’re doing when spoken words feel too much. Our ultimate mission is to reduce male suicide across the UK by creating a community where men support each other and realize they aren't alone.

Here is a breakdown of how the app works:

Mindset-Based Listening: The app works as a music player where you can choose albums, songs or lyrics specific to your current state of mind or resonate with you specifically. It uses links to YouTube to ensure the service remains completely free for everyone.

Anonymous Connection: There are open and closed forums—what we call the Connect page—where you can talk openly or anonymously about what you’re going through. If you can't find the words, you can post a song link to help others understand exactly what’s happening in your head.

Categorizing the Signal: You can discuss specific genres or lyrics that hit home for you, helping you categorize your mental state and find others who are vibrating on that same frequency.

The "First Aid Kit" (Safeguard): This is the heart of the app’s safety model. If you hit a crisis point, you can press the Panic Button and shake your phone for three seconds. This sends a continuous alert to your designated emergency contact that overrides their phone's silent settings until they respond.

Real-World Support: Through the "Our House" search feature, you can find our SIS Hubs at festivals and live events. You can even see if other app users are attending the same event, giving you a safe way to meet up and stay connected in person
